Paramount Chief M’mbelwa V of Mzimba District has fired his subordinate Group Village Headman German Mahowe for marrying a 17-year old girl.
Chief M’mberwa says that he has done this to condemn the practice of child marriages.www.avantmalawi.com has learnt that Chief Mahowe started defiling the girl in 2017 when the girl was 14.
Inkosi ya Makosi M’mbelwa said that it is a sad development that Mahowe, aged 42, who was one of the champions in child protection in M’mbelwa’s chief council, has done the opposite.
The paramount Ngoni chief said he is only a whistle blower in the matter and that law enforcement agencies will do the rest.
Meanwhile, different organizations have commended what Paramount Chief M’mbwelwa has done and call upon other chiefs to follow suit.
