Police in Mulanje are keeping in custody a 52-year-old man for allegedly raping and impregnating his 19-year-old stepdaughter.
The Mulanje District Police Spokesperson Gresham Ngwira said that the culprit John Muheka started making advances on the victim(name withheld) since 2019 with the aim of starting an affair with her.
The victim however turned him down on all occasions.
Having failed to woo the girl, Muheka forced himself on the girl a couple of times in her grandmother’s house earlier this year.
The girl started showing signs of pregnancy when she went to live with her uncle in Blantyre.
A pregnancy test conducted on the victim confirmed that the girl was pregnant.
Mr Muheka was arrested after the matter was reported to police.
Mr Ngwira said that Muheka will be charged with rape.
