Lives of patients are at risk following reports of continued medical drug shortage in many public hospitals in the country.
The Malawi Health Equity Network (MHEN) has confirmed that most public health facilities including Salima District Hospital do not have essential drugs in stock.
Patients are being sent back and advised to buy the required drugs and other essentials from private pharmacies.
The situation is not favourable to patients who have financial difficulties as they can not go to private pharmacies to buy medicines.
MHEN Executive Director George Jobe has appealed to the Ministry of Health to come out publicly and explain the situation to the citizenry.
