Kawale Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Mr Marko Mvukuta, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) has urged police officers at Biwi Police Unit to strive for excellence in the execution of their duties and remain apolitical.
The OC made the call on September 8, 2026, when he visited Biwi Police Unit, one of the lower formations under Kawale Police Station.
He said striving for excellence was essential for building a positive personal reputation while also contributing to the good image of the Malawi Police Service.
OC Mvukuta (ACP) also strongly warned officers against corruption and soliciting money from members of the public, reminding them that police services should be provided free of charge.
“Let’s give our services for free. Don’t demand money from members of the community, including for police bail. Such acts can attract criminal charges and put your job at stake,” he said.
On discipline, the OC reminded officers of the importance of dedication to duty, proper time management, welfare and maintaining good working relationships.
He further urged officers to uphold the fundamental rights of suspects, including ensuring that case files are processed expeditiously in accordance with the 48-hour rule.
Speaking during the meeting, Kawale Station Officer (SO), Superintendent Beatrice Nema, made her maiden address to the officers and called for continued efforts in fighting crime.
Nema commended the officers for their dedication despite working under challenging conditions and staff shortages.
She further challenged officers to take responsibility for duties commensurate with their ranks without waiting to be instructed.
In his welcoming remarks, Biwi Unit OC, Superintendent Mike Simika, expressed gratitude to Kawale high command for visiting the unit, saying the visit had motivated officers and demonstrated the management’s support for their work.
Simika also highlighted some challenges facing the unit, including limited office space. OC Mvukuta assured the officers that he would spearhead efforts to address the concern.
Speaking on behalf of junior officers, Sub-Inspector Stewart Mbunge thanked the OC for the visit and raised mobility challenges affecting some special operations. Mvukuta assured the officers of his support.
