The Malawi Police Service has come out to Clarify its latest recruitment of police officers, arguing no standards were compromised.
There is a public uproar over pictures of new police recruits, who members of the public argue look very young and immature for law enforcement responsibilities.
In a statement, National Police Publicist James Kadadzera has emphasized that minimum requirements for recruitment were followed and all the new officers were deemed fit for training by medical personnel. “The required minimum qualifications of Malawi school certificate of Examinations (MSCE) and National Identity cards was our major priority” Kadadzera said

The development is also coming at a time there is a security lapse in the country, which various commentators have recommended needs seriousness and professional law enforcement.
Malawi Police Service has for ages been a controversial civil service in Malawi, where most Malawians believe it is politically compromised to the current regime rulling. The new recruits are being criticised as short and underage where quarters believe they are politically incorporated into the new system.
