Former vice president of the republic of Malawi Dr Justin Chimera Malewezi has died at the age of 78.
Right honorable Malewezi was born on 23 December 1943.
He was a Malawian politician and he served as a member of Parliament for Ntchisi North Constituency.
He was vice president of Malawi for two consecutive terms from 1994 to 2004 under the United Democratic Front (UDF).
Malewezi left UDF in 2004 and prior to the election he joined People’s Progressive Movement (PPM).
After failing to be a torchbearer for the Mgwirizano Coalition which was led by Gwanda Chakuamba, Malewezi stood as an independent candidate in 2004.
Currently, the body of late Dr. Justin Chimera Malewezi has been taken to his residence at Likuni in Lilongwe where it now lays in state.
According to the Chewa Heritage Foundation (CHEFO), the funeral for Dr. Malewezi will be held on Saturday April 24 also in Likuni.

He died at a private clinic in Lilongwe’s area 18 last evening just before he was to be flown for specialist treatment in South Africa.
