Nyasa Big Bullets gains momentum

Nyasa Big Bullets’ push to retain the TNM Super League championship is gaining momentum following a 1-nil away victory over Ekwendeni Hammers at Mzuzu Stadium on Saturday.

Gomezgani Chirwa’s strike in the dying minutes of the match propelled the Bullets to third position with 22 points while condemning the Hammers to a third straight loss since the league’s resumption earlier this month.

Despite playing on a muddy pitch, the Mzuzu-based Hammers displayed their trademark good football, but lacked the cutting edge resulting in wastage of clear cut chances in the process.

Just as the game looked poised for a goalless draw, the people’s team found the back of the net to ensure that they stay only 3 points behind leaders, Silver Strikers, who also won against Red Lions at Chiwembe.

Speaking after the game, Bullets coach, Calisto Pasuwa, expressed delight with the win which he stressed was hard-fought considering the poor condition of the pitch.

On his part, Ekwendeni Hammers mentor, Etson Kadenge Mwafulirwa, acknowledged the loss to what he described as a very good side that used its experience to perfection.
