LINGADZI POLICE ARRESTS TWO FOR STEALING ECG FUNDS


Lingadzi Police Station has arrested Wongani Ng’oma and Edwin Kambalame for theft by public servant, contrary to Section 283(1) of the Penal code.

The duo committed the offence on 3rd December 2020 at Bingu National Stadium.

The third suspect, a principle accountant at Ministry of Youth and Sports, is still at large.

The three stole cash amounting to 5 million which was paid by ECG Church of Prophet Shepherd Bushiri for the Miracle Night Crossover which was scheduled to take place on 31 December, 2020.

On 3 December 2020, ECG Church booked BNS Stadium for overnight crusade which was later cancelled and the church demanded back the payment.

The ministry asked the first suspect to arrange the deposit slip and payment vouchers for that the Accountant General to process the funds for ECG church.

As a result the first suspect failed to produce the documents and later revealed that he shared the money with his superiors at the Ministry.

He only deposited K800,000 and the remaining money was misappropriated.

Police have so far recovered K3 million from the first suspect. Enquiries are underway to recover the remaining money and the arrest of third suspect who is on the run.

Wongani Ng’oma, 35 years, hails from Msuli village in Traditional Authority Timbiri in Nkhata-Bay while Edwin Kambalame, 49, hails from Nsenga village in Traditional Authority Masumbankhunda in Lilongwe.

The suspects will appear in court soon to answer a charge of theft by servant.
