Embangweni United FC and Mzuzu City Hammers have settled for a share of the spoils following a goalless stalemate in their NBS Bank National Division League clash at Mzuzu Stadium on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

The Northern Region rivals went head-to-head in a fiercely contested encounter, with both sides showing attacking intent and carving out scoring opportunities. However, a lack of clinical finishing proved costly as neither team could find the breakthrough, forcing both sides to settle for a point apiece.

Embangweni United FC head coach Dan Lusale described the encounter as a tough assignment, likening its intensity to that of a derby, while maintaining that his side had approached the fixture with the ambition of collecting maximum points.

“We played well and created more chances than our opponents, but we failed to convert them into goals. Nevertheless, I applaud my boys for their good performance,” said Lusale.

Meanwhile, Mzuzu City Hammers coach Chisomo Kamulanje admitted that his charges struggled to create enough clear-cut opportunities to trouble their opponents’ defence and secure victory.

Kamulanje, however, remains optimistic about his team’s prospects in upcoming fixtures, pledging to return to the drawing board to assess their shortcomings and address the areas requiring improvement.

The draw lifts Mzuzu City Hammers to second place on the league table with 26 points from 15 matches, level with third-placed Extreme FC but ahead on goal difference.

Embangweni United FC, meanwhile, occupy fifth position with 24 points from 15 outings, remaining firmly in contention as the battle for promotion intensifies in the NBS Bank National Division League.
