Area 5 in Machinjiri Blantyre city, residents are stranded after their houses were demolished last night by the Malawi Police Services.
Avant Publications has learnt from its reporter based in Blantyre that this shocking news has rendered hundreds homeless due to land disputes between Blantyre Synod and the area’s ordinary residents.
“We were requested to vacate from the premises years back, we went to court on the same as legitimate residents. However, last midnight we were caught by surprise with a Malawi Police armed vehicle that started demolishing our houses. It has been a terrible night as we have nowhere to go. The police are guarding the land at this moment and we are now strangers in from our homes.” Mrs Msusa
During our random interview, most affected residents claimed to be legitimate owners of the said disputed land and they are heavily accusing the Synod for encroachment.
However, we tried contacting Blantyre Synod on the same. Efforts proved futile
