CHAKWERA COMMISSIONS 151 OFFICER CADETS

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) today commissioned 151 Officer Cadets for Malawi Defence Force at Malawi Armed Forces College (MAFCO) in Salima.

During the function, the Malawi leader also presided over the passing out parade of 1,055 military recruits who have completed 16 months of training.

In his address, Dr Chakwera assured the military of his government’s commitment to modernise it.

“You now have a huge responsibility on your shoulders, and we have every right to expect you to discharge your duties effectively.

“For my part as your Commander-in-Chief, I will ensure that my administration addresses the operational challenges of this institution. I will also ensure that my administration’s drive to modernize the military is not disrupted,” said Dr Chakwera.

Malawi Army Defence Commander, General Vincent Nundwe, emphasized the need for the newly recruited soldiers to use the skills acquired to protect the interests of Malawians.

He said their uniform is not meant to intimidate citizens but rather protecting them. Nundwe added that Malawi is a peaceful nation which should not be destabilised by ill-minded people that spread falsehood using social media platforms.

“The army is disciplined and will not allow anyone to destabilise the country by spreading false stories,” General Nundwe said.

The President was in the company of Vice President, Dr Saulos Chilima, Army Commander Major General Vincent Nundwe, Cabinet Ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials and chiefs, among others.
