Police in Lilongwe have apprehended a 42-year-old woman, Towera Bomba, on suspicion of stealing two Toyota Hilux vehicles and using them as collateral to secure a K27 million loan.
The arrest was confirmed by Sub-Inspector Foster Benjamin, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for the Central West Region Police. According to Benjamin, Bomba was taken into custody at her residence in Area 12, following investigations that revealed she had hired the two vehicles from different individuals in June.
Bomba is alleged to have altered the vehicles’ details, including ownership and license plate numbers. She first secured a K15 million loan from a victim in Area 49 by offering one of the vehicles as collateral. She then obtained an additional K12 million from a businesswoman in Mzuzu, using the second vehicle as security.

However, detectives from the Anti-Motor Vehicle Theft Unit of the Central West Region Police were able to track down Bomba and successfully recovered both vehicles.
Bomba now faces three charges: theft of motor vehicles, altering false documents, and fraud other than false pretenses. She is originally from Nsinja Village, under Traditional Authority Kachere in Dedza District.
