STEWARDS GOOFED AT MZUZU STADIUM

(By Vinjeru Ngwira)

The coming in of deadly pandemic so called COVID-19 has turned things sour in all angles of our life.

Let me drive you straight to Mzuzu stadium where the Super League of Malawi pegged three matches last week, Moyale Barracks hosted Nyasa Big Bullets on Saturday, on Sunday Mzuzu Warriors welcomed their visitors from Blantyre (Nyasa Big Bullets FC) and on Wednesday 25 August Moyale Barracks hosted Ekwendeni Hammers.

We all know that the Malawi government through Ministry of Health in conjunction with the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, directed that all sporting activities that are being played in door, must have a limited number of the spectators as one way of preventing the spread of the deadly Coronavirus.

The number of spectators should not exceed 100 per venue, this includes teams plus official and the media team must be within the range of 100.

My anger comes is based on what happened at Mzuzu Stadium during one of the matches. While I was there, following all COVID-19 prevention measures, I noticed that stewards were demanding money from supporters to enable them watch the game which was being played inside. This conduct is contrary to what our health institutions put in place to guarantee spectators are free from congestion.

Supporters who were left outside due to COVID-19 preventive measures were asked to pay K1000 each for them to watch the game live.

Amongst those who were denied entry to avoid over crowding the stadium was a journalist from a certain media house was denied entry without paying money.
