Police urge Biwi skilled artisans and garage owners to halt criminality, road accidents

Police in Kawale have on Match 18, 2026 asked mechanics, panel beaters, tyre fitters plying their trade within Biwi industrial site to join law enforcers in the fight against crime and road accidents.

The call has been made following criminal records which are being concealed once committed in which some skilled men are being used unknowingly

Records indicates that some crime and road accidents perpetrators uses these skilled artisans to fix and paint the cars involved in the commission of crimes alter identity, and evidence.

It is from this background that Kawale Police Station through Traffic, CID and Community Policing branches merged to bring awareness to garage owners and skilled artisans.

Speaking during the meeting, Assistant Supritendent John Benjamin Nyangulu Station Traffic Officer (STO) highlighted several preventive tips, like record keeping, the right usage of motor vehicles on road test that includes display of MD number plate, having driving licence and not driving whilst drunk.

He cited that several mechanics when involved in road accidents they tend to gives excuses that they are not drivers.

He therefore reminded them the need to have driving licence citing that everyone who is on the driving seat is deemed as driver and is treated as such according to road traffic act which demands authority to drive.

Concurring with Station Traffic Officer (STO) sentiments, Inspector Mayeso Chikadza Community Policing Coordinator further highlighted the need of reporting to police suspicious customers, while Detective Sergeant Kondwani Aipa tackled various tips aimed at halting motor vehicle crimes that are at times aided and concealed by garage owners and skilled artisans like panel beaters, painters and mechanics

Biwi light weight industry Chair person Malani Gondwe expressed his gratitude to Kawale Police for the timely visit with eye opening security tips.He therefore called upon his fellow skilled men to amend their ways, refrain from any suspicious business and report to police anyone who seemed to have been involved in hit and run road accidents and motor vehicle theft.
