MERA BOARD KICKED OUT

Government has removed the Board for the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority due to what it calls incompetence in handling the recruiting of MERA’s Chief Executive Officer recently.

In a Statement signed by the Secretary to the Office of President and Cabinet Zangazanga Chikhosi, government is not happy with how the Leonard Chikadya led board handled the whole recruitment.

According to the statement, government seeks the indulgence of the Parliamentary Appointments Committee to remove the Board.

The MERA Board came under fire when it was reported that the connived to recruit Henry Kachaje as the new CEO for the energy regulator inspite of the revelations that he did not have the minimum qualifications at the time of his recruitment.
