Man to spend 15 months in jail for wounding another

The Third Grade Magistrate Court sitting at Bolero in Rumphi on Tuesday December 29, 2020 convicted and sentenced Isaac Kamanga, 39, to 15 months Imprisonment with Hard Labour (I.H.L) after being found guilty for unlawfully wounding another.

Sub Inspector Andrew Singini told the court that Kamanga injured Frackson Sache on December 21, 2020 at Thumbi trading center in Mzimba north.

He further said Kamanga found the victim while he was with a friend Muhawa at a drinking joint. Kamanga then robbed four hundred kwacha from Muhawa, a thing which agitated Sache. Then, Sache asked Kamanga to return the money but instead of giving back the money, Kamanga took an empty bottle and beat Sache on the forehead. Following the impact, Sache bled severely which forced the onlookers to arrest Kamanga.

Later, the matter was reported to Rumphi police who charged him with the offence of unlawful wounding which contravenes section 241 of the Penal Code.

In court, Kamanga pleaded guilty to the charge levelled against him.

In his submission, state prosecutor Sub Inspector Andrew Singini asked court to give meaningful sentence to teach Kamanga a lesson.  Singini added that the criminal act was on the surge in the district hence the penalty to serve as a deterrent.

In passing sentence, Her Worship Chikumbutso Kachipande concurred with the state’s submissions and slapped Kamanga with 15 months imprisonment with hard labour.

Isaac Kamanga comes from Gwazanjani village in the area of Inkosi Jalavikuba in Mzimba.
