Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Benedicto Chambo, has emphasized that ending hunger in Malawi is possible through increased investment in collaborative initiatives. He stated that by involving various stakeholders in loan distribution and promoting a shift in mindset, the country can achieve food security.

Speaking during an interface meeting organized by the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) with Nyika Media Club and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on Saturday, February 1, at Grand Palace Hotel in Mzuzu, Chambo called for policy changes. He noted that many professionals have the potential to modernize and commercialize the agricultural sector but struggle due to a lack of financial resources.

Chambo highlighted the need for targeted financial support that empowers professionals to invest in agriculture seriously. He stressed that with the right policies in place, Malawi could transform its agricultural sector into a key driver of economic growth and food security.

Meanwhile, Robert Mkwezalamba, a board member of Civil Society Organizations, called for an increased budget allocation for NEEF loans. He argued that the current K150 billion budget is inadequate to meet the growing demand from Malawians seeking financial assistance to invest in various sectors.

On the other hand, Nyika Media Club Chairperson, Feston Malekezo, pointed out that the media landscape is evolving in the digital era. He stressed that media houses require financial support to adapt to these changes and urged NEEF to consider funding media institutions to ensure their financial sustainability and independence.
