Balaka Police hunt for student’s assailants

Police in Balaka are looking for unknown assailants who abducted and killed an 18-year-old Form three student, Gift Libuda, formerly of St Charles Lwangwa Secondary School in the district.

On Sunday afternoon, September 10, 2023 Libuda left his home for his grandparent’s house at Chiyendausiku Trading Centre to take his laggage in readiness for the first term school session.

Upon arrival at Ngwangwa Filling Station Bus Depot, he boarded an unknown Sienta motor vehicle where he found two other passengers and a driver.

Later, the driver told the three passengers that he wanted to pick more passengers at Andiamo Location.

After arriving at Andiamo Location, the two passengers and the driver grabbed the student (Gift Libuda) by the neck and poured some toxic liquid substance on his face and in his mouth before finally assaulting him.

Following the incident, the student became unconscious and was dumped right at the scene.

After gaining strength later at night, Libuda went to Rajab Maliro’s boy’s quarter to rest. On the morning of Monday, September 11, 2023, the student was seen by the owner of the boy’s quarter (Maliro) but he was weak.

Upon interrogations, Libuda revealed the ordeal to the owner of the boy’s quarter about what had happened to him and in turn he informed Libuda’s parents.

The parents rushed to the scene and took their son, (Gift) to Balaka Police Station where he was issued with a medical report to Balaka District Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.

Postmortem examination conducted at the facility revealed that death was due to Hypovolemic shock, Haemorrhage and poisoning.

Meanwhile, investigations are underway to trace and arrest the suspects.

The deceased hailed from Kaumphawi Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka District.//END//
