Arrest Made in Connection to Murder of Reserve Bank Employee; Stolen Items Recovered

Police investigations into the tragic murder of Agnes Katengeza, a Reserve Bank of Malawi employee, have led to the arrest of Amos Katengeza, a close relative of the deceased. The shocking discovery of Agnes’s body in her official vehicle behind Gateway Mall on September 24, 2023, sent shockwaves through the community.

Amos Katengeza, aged 27, was apprehended after investigators found him in possession of items stolen from Agnes both before and after her murder. The police tracked him down at Blantyre Market, where he was found with an iPad and a power bank belonging to the deceased.

Reports from the authorities indicate a concerning trail of stolen belongings, including an iPhone 6 taken from Agnes’s house almost four months prior to her tragic death. The police aimed to retrieve the phone, seeking potentially valuable information stored within its hard drive.

A startling revelation emerged during the investigation, with a technician in Blantyre admitting to handling the iPhone 6, erasing its data, and unlinking it from the deceased’s iCloud account. Further interviews pointed to the suspect as the individual responsible for several gadgets, including an iPhone 13, an iPad, and a laptop, all registered under the deceased’s iCloud accounts.

Adding to the complexity of the case, the suspect was the one who reported Agnes as missing on September 23, 2023, mere hours after her untimely demise at around 14:00 hours.

While Amos Katengeza remains in custody, ongoing investigations strive to apprehend other individuals linked to this harrowing case of murder and theft.
