Youths clean Mchinji Police premises

Some United Transformation Movement(UTM) youths in Mchinji on Friday took time to sweep Mchinji Police Station premises to help improve sanitation in the face of Covid-19.

The youth had also donated sanitary material to the station to help prevent further spread of the pandemic.

Speaking in an interview after the exercise, the youth wing chairperson Lameck Chimombo said they felt obliged to assist the station including detainees to help fight Covid-19.

He said: “Besides sweeping, we also saw it fit that we enlighten communities on Covid-19 to prevent its further spread.”

Chimombo said it was high time youth stopped being used as tools to perpetrate violence but on productive initiatives.

He also said the exercise was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the police and the community in the area.

“As youth, we need to work together with the police to help fight crime by giving tips and alerting them on any criminal activities.”

Speaking in an interview, Mchinji Police Officer-In-Charge Assistant Commissioner, George Mtetemera thanked the youth for the gesture urging others to emulate the same.

“The sanitary materials will greatly help us stay protected as we take matters to court,” he said.

Recently, the youth cleaned Mchinji hospital and donated some items.
