MUTHARIKA ABOLISHES SCHOOL FEES IN MALAWI

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has announced that, effective January next year, school fees for both primary and secondary schools in Malawi will be scrapped.

Speaking during the Mulhakho wa Alhomwe Cultural Festival at Chonde in Mulanje on Sunday, Mutharika said the decision aims to ensure that every child has access to education, warning learners against absenteeism and involvement in drug and substance abuse.

“No parent will have an excuse not to send their children to school. Education is key to development, and we want discipline and hard work if Malawi is to move forward,” said the President.

Mutharika expressed gratitude to Malawians for their continued support and trust, assuring them that his government will serve all citizens equally. He also appealed for patience as his administration works to stabilise the economy.

“Things are difficult, but I promise to do my best and be fair to everyone. Let us have faith and love one another beyond tribal boundaries,” he added.

Earlier, Paramount Chief Kaduya hailed this year’s festival theme — “Enduring Spirit, Overcoming Challenges Together” — describing it as a true reflection of the resilience Malawians continue to show amid economic hardships and natural disasters.

Mulhakho wa Alhomwe Organising Committee Chairperson, Felix Tambulansi, thanked the President for his unwavering support and consistent attendance at the festival, noting his role in promoting peace, unity, and national cohesion.
