A report has been received from Mr Simion Phambiwa aged 52yrs vge Magombo T/a Nkanda District Mulanje that his nephew Evance Mthuluwe aged 34yrs of the same village has been assaulted and burned to death by unknown angry mob.
Brief facts of the case are that deceased was a well known criminal and have just been pardoned from prison due to Covid pandemic
On 27/08/2020 during night time deceased and his friend Francis Manjiri aged 23yrs vge Misanjo T/a Mabuka Dist Mulanje went to the house of Mr Rodgers Mchomchoma aged 40yrs vge Misomali T/a Nkalo District Chiradzuru where they broke the house and stole Lifo motorcycles
On 28/08/2020 the deceased was seen at Nkando trading center with the same motorcycle offering for sale and the owner was informed
On 29/08/2020 at about 1500hrs the owner and other relatives started following up the deceased in order to catch him and recover the stolen motorcycle
At about 1800hrs deceased and his friend Francis Manjiri were apprehended at Magombo vge T/a Nkanda District Mulanje where they were drinking beer by the Vllagers
The angry people assaulted the deceased and burned him to death. The second suspect was rescued by Community forum personnel and brought him to Chambe police unit
Police were informed who rushed to the scene of crime together with clinical officer from Mulanje District hospital who conducted postmortem examination and results was that death was due to severe head injuries because of the assault
Meanwhile the second suspect have admitted to have stolen the motorcycle and sold to phalombe and investigators are still underway to recover the motorcycle.
