Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsanje North Constituency, Enock Masautso Chizuzu on Sunday launched K3 million trophy at M’bwazi Primary School ground in the district.
Chizuzu said through the trophy, he wants to nurture and develop the talent of players in his area of jurisdiction hence no need to tap other players from outside Nsanje North.
“Last time it was K2 million which I divided into five zones namely; Kalulu, Ng’ombe, Fatima, Namilembe and Makhanga but this time around, the same zones will have a share of K500, 000 for fooball teams while K100, 000 will be for netball teams for the period of four months,” he said.
Chairperson for Fatima Fooball Committee Zone, King Alex Solomoni thanked the law maker for putting sporting activities to his heart.
Said Solomoni: “Apart from introducing these trophies for primary and secondary schools he has also done the same with communities and social football teams as well. No one can say that they are sidelined because all people who love football are taken on board.”
“Leaving sports aside, our MP has also rehabilitated football grounds and put metal goal posts including giving us nets in more that ten football ground including here at M’bwazi Primary School ground,” he said.
He however said for the team to participate it required to pay registration fee of K3, 000 and asked all teams to participate peacefully as they did in the previous trophy.
Nsanje district fooball committee chairperson, Kenason Jimu has since asked other law makers to emulate MP Chizuzu.
On his part, Nsanje district sports officer, Sheriff Malunga thanked Chizuzu for sport development which he said will make youths in the area busy thereby avoiding in indulging in immoral behaviours.
Malunga said more trophies in the district will help to contribute more players to teams that are taking part in Premier and Unayo in the Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) of Bangula Hammers and Nsanje United respectively.
During the launch, Fish Eagles were the champions of a bonanza and cut home K50, 000, runners up Fatima Association went home with K40, 000, third place M’bwazi was given K30, 000 and Chinyanje took home K20, 000 all with a jersey worth K250, 000 each. The MP also handed over a jersey to Namilembe champions Monica Football Club.
Fatima Medical Sisters were heroes of the day and grabbed home K35, 000, runners up Buleya Sisters who took home K25, 000 third place Chinyanje Sisters and were given K15, 000 and on forth place were Namilembe who got home with K10, 000.
