In a twist of events, the Management of the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) has been squeezed by it’s workers to address disputes outlined in a four paged document signed by the Secretary General, William Mnyamula.
Avantmalawi managed to interview one of the officials (name withheld) from Escom who confirmed that, if the desired outcry from the workers won’t be addressed by their management, a strike will be staged which may paralyze day to day activities of ESCOM.
Among many things, in this leaked document, avantmalawi discovered that Strike looms at ESCOM employees as they are against the transfer of Single Buyer Function to Power Market Limited. This is a development born from public reforms.
ESCOM employees are afraid of worst financial woes at the utility company and increased electricity tariffs to the citizenry.
In their claims, ESCOM workers believe that the country may experience prolonged blackouts if the issue may not promptly be resolved
