Eight people have been arrested in Chileka, Blantyre for allegedly operating liquor shops outside permitted hours.
The eight have been nabbed from various trading centres around Chileka.
“They were found operating the shops in the morning, way before the permitted time and they flouted the COVID-19 rules,” Peter Mchiza, Publicist for Chileka Police.
He said the suspects will be taken court to answer charges leveled against them.
“The 2021 amended rules and regulations of the Public Health Act regulate the time limit for all liquor business people to operate from 14:00 to 20:00 hours every day and any sale of such beyond this stipulated time is punishable by law,” he asserted.
