Avantmalawi gathers that Robert Chabvi ward counselor for Matundu in Nsanje district has handed himself to Nsanje Police Station, on allegations of murder charges.
Reports has it that Mr Chabvi ran into disputes with his worker by the name Gerald Mphande, aged 30 (now deceased), whom it is believed the Councilor went as far as beating the worker to death.
The dispute came in as a result of 4 missing goats from Chabvi’s kraal on 15 December, 2020. This made him to conclude that the worker was responsible and assaulted him on the same day.
After being taken to hospital for treatment, Mphande made his last breath on 27 December, 2020 at Nsanje hospital.
In reaction to the incident, Nsanje Police Officers launched a manhunt exercise in search of Councilor Chabvi.
Nsanje Police Public Relations officer sub – inspector Agnes Zalakoma says Chabvi is believed to have assaulted Gerald Mphande. And the assault has resulted in Mphande losing his life.
Our reporter gathers that the district is yet to formally charge Chabvi with Murder case when investigations are concluded.
The councilor is still in the hands of the law enforcers and he has already spent a night at Nsanje Police cell where investigations are taking place.
The deceased (Gerald Mphande) hails from Sekeni Village in Paramount Chief Lundu in Chikwawa District.
