Police urge celebrants to adhere to safety measures during festival season

Police in Mangochi district are appealing to celebrants to adhere to safety measures when visiting beaches along Lake Malawi during this festive season holiday.

The reminder comes as Christmas and New Year festivities are around the corner and it is a tradition that a lot of people flock to Mangochi to enjoy themselves.

The general public is therefore reminded to adhere to road safety measures, such as avoid driving while drunk, put on seatbelts, over-speeding, exceeding capacity and driving unworthy motor vehicles as some of the ways of avoiding road accidents.

In addition, the station bemoans the tendency of peeping outside cars through windows when vehicles are in motion.

To avoid drowning incidents, the celebrants are encouraged to use life jackets, avoid swimming while drunk and during odd hours.

Resort owners are reminded to protect their guests by not allowing drunkards into waters and provide stewards (rescue party) who will be available to rescue people.

The police also appeal to Hotel/Lodge owners to have records of their guests to ensure that criminals do not  take  advantage of the season by posing as clients.

Kabaza operators are advised to stop the tendency of operating their businesses during odd hours to avoid being robbed or killed by criminals.

Parents and guardians are reminded to take care of their children, not to allow them loitering around and attending parties at odd hours which normally happen in the coming days especially female children to avoid being abused.

They should not leave their homes unattended and avoid updating their movements and activities on social media.

During 2019 festive season, Mangochi Police Station recorded no serious crime and road incident and wishes for the same this year.

The general public is therefore assured of safety and security during their stay in the district.

The station has rolled out intensive day and night patrols, sweeping exercises, boarder patrols and snap roadblocks to make sure that no criminal activities take place.

Traffic police officers are executing their duties day and night in all roads in the district to make sure that traffic laws are followed.

Additionally, all road users are asked to comply to orders given by traffic police.

The public is warned not to infringe rights of others and anyone who will be found violating laws will be dealt with accordingly.
