Police in Chilipa, Mangochi, have arrested a 29-year-old, Jafali M’bwana, for allegedly stabbing to death Sumaila Aubrey, 23, after finding him having sexual intercourse with his 38-year old wife inside their matrimonial home.
The incident occurred during the night of July 25, 2026, at Stambuli Village, Traditional Authority Chimwala, in Mangochi District.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Aubrey, now deceased, was involved in a romantic relationship with the suspect’s wife. On the night of the incident, he reportedly went to visit her lover, believing that her husband was still in Lilongwe, where he had planned to spend the night.
However, the suspect unexpectedly returned home around midnight. After knocking several times without receiving a response, he forced his way into the house, where he found the two having sexual intercourse.
It is alleged that M’bwana then produced a knife and stabbed Aubrey several times in the chest. The injured man fled the house but collapsed a short distance away, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The following morning, a villager on the way to his garden found Aubrey’s body lying naked in a pool of blood and informed the village headman, who later reported the incident to Chilipa Police Unit.
Police officers accompanied by medical personnel from Chilipa Health Centre visited the scene. A post-mortem examination established that Aubrey died from excessive blood loss due to multiple stab wounds.
The suspect was arrested and he admitted to the offence. He has since been charged with murder, contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code, and is expected to appear before court upon completion of the necessary paperwork.
