Police in Mangochi have arrested a 31-year-old primary school teacher, Davie Chunga, for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old Standard 7 pupil, who is also his learner.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 26 July 2026, within the Township.
It is alleged that the victim met the suspect, a teacher at Mpondasi Primary School, on her way home from church. The suspect invited her to his house under the pretext of conducting extra lessons. While there, he asked her to cook nsima before forcing himself on the minor.
It is further alleged that the suspect later gave the victim K10,000 before she returned home.
Upon arriving home at around 6:00 p.m., her parents questioned her about her whereabouts after church. She disclosed that she had spent the afternoon at the teacher’s house and narrated the ordeal to them.
The matter was reported to police, and the victim was issued with a referral letter to Mangochi District Hospital for a medical examination. The results confirmed that she had been carnally known.
According to statistics, the station has recorded 35 cases of having sexual intercourse with a female child from January to date, compared to 21 cases recorded during the same period last year.
The suspect has been charged with having sexual intercourse with a female child, contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Code. He is expected to appear before court upon the completion of investigations.
