The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has joined the wider sports family in mourning the death of former Chipolopolo striker Tapson Kaseba.

FAZ president Keith Mweemba expressed his grief, saying he received the news with deep shock. He described Kaseba as a remarkable player whose contribution to both club and country will be remembered for many years to come.

Kaseba rose to prominence in 2019 when he finished as the top scorer at the COSAFA Championship, a tournament that Zambia went on to win. His goalscoring exploits played a pivotal role in helping the Chipolopolo reclaim regional glory.

At domestic level, the striker turned out for several leading Zambian clubs. His career included spells at Green Eagles, Napsa Stars, Kansanshi Dynamos, and Konkola Blades, where he left a lasting impression with his sharp eye for goal.

“Football has lost a true talent who left an indelible mark on the game. We are deeply saddened by his death and our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time,” Mweemba said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

He added that Kaseba’s legacy would live on, not only through the goals he scored, but also in the inspiration he provided to young players across the country. “Tapson was a role model to many aspiring footballers,” the FAZ president noted.

The association has pledged its support to Kaseba’s family during this period of mourning, with Mweemba urging the football community to rally around them as they come to terms with the loss.

Kaseba passed away on Wednesday, 3 September 2025, at the University Teaching Hospital after an illness, bringing to a close a career that left an enduring footprint on Zambian football.
