Kawale Police Station has recorded a 37.2 percent increase in criminal cases during the first six months of 2026 compared to the same period last year.
The development was disclosed on Thursday, August 6, 2026, during a Station Executive Committee (SEC) meeting held at Kawale Police Station to review the area’s crime trends, identify contributing factors and devise measures to curb criminal activities.
According to the station’s Research and Planning Officer, Sub-Inspector Modester Namakwera, Kawale Police recorded 710 criminal cases during the first six months of 2026, compared to 517 cases recorded during the corresponding period in 2025.

This represents an increase of 193 cases, or 37.2 percent.
Namakwera further indicated that the station had also recorded an increase in road traffic accidents during the period under review.
Addressing the gathering, Kawale Police Station Officer, Senior Superintendent Gladys Chiwaula, called on community leaders to take an active role in strengthening Community Policing structures within their respective areas.
She emphasized that fighting crime requires collective efforts from the police, community leaders and residents.
“Security is a shared responsibility. As we do our part, let us join hands in the fight against crime,” said Chiwaula.
Senior Superintendent Chiwaula assured the stakeholders that police would remain committed to reducing crime in the area and strengthening collaboration with communities.
Meanwhile, Kawale Community Policing Coordinator, Inspector Mayeso Chikadza, urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children, citing concerns over an increase in children being found without proper parental care in the area.
He warned that children left vulnerable could face various dangers, including becoming victims of sexual offences.
The Station Executive Committee Chairperson, Mr Abel Nyasulu, commended Kawale Police management for organizing the meeting, describing it as an eye-opener that would enable stakeholders to work together in addressing crime.
Nyasulu pledged to intensify efforts by the community structures in supporting police initiatives aimed at improving security.
The meeting also agreed on several measures to address crime in the area, including mechanisms to curb the operation of unnecessary drinking places, commonly known as shabins.
