Police in Makokola, Mangochi on October 28, 2024 arrested 35-year-old James Phiri, on allegations of sexually molesting two siblings of 12 and 10-years old respectively.
Reports indicate that the two victims who are sisters on the evening of October 27, were sent by their mother to sell samosa at Makawa Trading Centre.
The suspect who happened to be their regular customer, bought two pieces of worth K200 and gave the victims a K1000 note prompting them to struggle in finding change.
The suspect took advantage of the situation and requested the two to follow him to get their money. However, he led them into a nearby uncompleted church building where he took turns defiling them. He then gave them additional K500 before he threatened to terminate their lives if they dared disclosing.
The following morning, the victims mother noticed that the two had difficulties in walking and complained of genital pains and later the duo revealed the ordeal.
The matter was reported to Makokola Police Unit where both victims were issued with referral letters to Koche Community Hospital where results indicated that they were carnally molested leading to Phiri’s arrest.
Meanwhile, the suspect will appear before court after the completion of paperwork to answer two charges of having sexual intercourse with a minor which contravenes section 138 of the Penal Code.
Phiri hails from Katapira village, Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka.
