Police preach against suicide to SDA congregants

The Officer In-Charge for Mangochi Police Station, Mr. Morgan Dzonzi, Assistant Commissioner of Police has urged congregants to take charge and work hand in hand with the police in the fight against suicide cases in the district.

He made the appeal on January 13, 2024, at Mangochi Seventh Day Adventist Church within the township.

Taking advantage as one of the congregants, Dzonzi appealed to parents to have time and counsel their children about the malpractice since recently the station has recorded a number of suicide cases by minors over petty issues.

While quoting some verses from the Bible, Dzonzi reminded his fellows that suicide is not the best option. He cited examples of holy people like Solomon, Elijah, and Jonah who faced many challenges beyond their abilities but endured in the end.

“Suicide is a tragic reality in our fallen world. To lose a loved one due to suicide prompts a range of questions. The Bible offers hope, and let us learn to share our problems with others. Let us not fold our hands, and police alone cannot win this battle,” Dzonzi pleaded.

However, he encouraged them to seek help from relevant authorities, including the Victim Support Unit, whenever they face challenges in life.

He also tackled issues of murder, mob justice, and advised the congregants not to allow their children to loiter around or play near fully water bodies, especially in the rainy season, to avoid cases of drowning.

In his remarks, Mangochi Seventh Day Adventist Church Pastor, Mr. Gift Plumero, applauded Dzonzi for the initiative and also assured him that the church is committed to working with the police. Preaching against malpractices will be routinely done whenever chances arise.
