Nation’s Youth Football Talent Shines in Rough Diamond Tournament

Following the success of the National Youth Football Rough Diamond Tournament on January 5, 2024, at Dedza Stadium in Dedza district, 40 promising under-14 players have been chosen nationwide. The tournament, meticulously organized by the National Youth Football Association, aimed to scout and select exceptional U-14 talents from the northern, central, eastern, and southern regions of the country.

In an interview with Avant Sports Desk Mwayi Kumwenda Vice General Secretary of Northern Region Youth Committee said As associate we are very much satisfied for the opportunity to participate in the Rough Diamond Tournament for under 14 in Dedza. Despite a single day of play, our satisfaction is undeniable. It's essential to consider the challenges, especially for kids traveling long distances. Looking forward to future events that prioritize a more conducive schedule for the well-being of our young players

He added that tournaments like the Rough Diamond Tournament for under 14 hold significant importance in youth football development for example skill development, competition experience, team building character building and scouting opportunities.

Kumwenda also disclosed that the Northern Region Select team has made a significant contribution with 10 standout players. The selected talents are as follows:

  2. Pilirani Thole – Mzimba
  3. Andrew Njewa – Mzuzu
  4. George Mwalwali – Karonga
  5. Danny Kavala – Nkhata Bay
  6. Alex Kamanga – Mzuzu
  7. Alick Mwale – Nkhata Bay
  8. Emmanuel Kanyimbo – Mzuzu
  9. Precious Uka – Mzuzu
  10. Elias Nyirenda – Mzimba.
