Police at Jenda have on January 02, 2024 arrested Sitimizi Banda 49, on suspicion that he had sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl who is in standard five at a certain primary school at Embangweni in the district.
It is alleged that on 1st January this year, the victim was accompanied by her two friends to the farm where she was sent by her grandmother.
When returning from the farm, the two friends went into a nearby bush to relieve themselves leaving behind the victim alone on the road.
Later, the victim was met by Banda who took her to the opposite bush and forced himself on her. He later gave her K200 so that she should not disclose the ordeal to anyone.
But after reaching home, the victim told her grandmother of the incident, thus when the matter was reported to police and the victim was sent to Embangweni mission hospital for examination. Results confirmed that the girl was sexually assaulted.
Banda has since been charged with having sexual intercourse with female child which contravenes section 138 subsection (1) of the Penal Code and will appear before court in due course.
Jenda police is encouraging members of the community to keep on reporting all criminal cases to Police in order to arrest the suspects.
Furthermore, police is advising chiefs to avoid handling criminal cases but instead refer such cases to the Police.
Sitimizi Banda hails from Mafanaizo Saka village, Traditional Authority Mzukuzuku in Mzimba district.
