Kawale Police Station Officer (SO), Superintendent Beatrice Nema, has urged local leaders to take an active role in the fight against crime in their respective areas.
Nema made the call on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, during a familiarization meeting with chiefs held at Kawale Police Station.
She outlined the station’s crime-fighting strategy and encouraged chiefs to strengthen security structures, including neighbourhood watch teams, to enhance crime prevention.
Nema also condemned mob justice and urged chiefs to sensitise their subjects against taking the law into their own hands.
Operations Officer Superintendent Thomas Mtenthawonga advised chiefs to know their subjects, avoid harbouring suspected criminals and report suspicious individuals to police which was concurred by the Station Coordinator Inspector Mayeso Chikadza who further raised concerns of suicide cases and child marriages
Meanwhile, Station Traffic Officer (STO) Superintendent Cleignford Mgala urged chiefs to sensitise Kabaza operators and other road users on the importance of observing traffic rules and regulations to prevent road accidents.
Group Village Headman Lembalire shared his experience with neighbourhood watch structures and emphasised their importance in enhancing community security.
The meeting agreed on the need for stronger cooperation between police, chiefs and communities in the fight against crime.
