Five people have died and two others sustained severe injuries in a road accident at Chikhutu Village along Mchinji-Lilongwe M12 road in Mchinji.
Mchinji Police spokesperson, Limbani Mpinganjira identifies the deceased as Nelson Mwale, 40, Yesaya Ezara, 17, Alex Bisalomu, 47, and two unknown male passengers.
Mpinganjira say the accident involved a Volvo Truck registration number AJD1839/ABR7837 from Zambia moving towards the Lilongwe direction.
Upon arriving at Chikhutu Village, the driver lost control, hit a pedal -cyclist who was also cycling the same direction identified as Taulino Mateyu, 25, from Sintiyoni Village, Traditional Authority Zulu in Mchinji.
He adds the driver swerved to his offside lane where he collided head-on with a Fuso Fighter 4 Tonner motor vehicle registration number MC 5392 that had three passengers on board.
The driver and the three passengers sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures and were all confirmed dead upon arrival at Mchinji District Hospital.
