Police in Mchinji has reported the defilement case of a Malawi Defense Soldier who was hired to provide security at Mkanda TDC in the on going MSCE Examinations.
According to Mchinji Police, the incident was reported to police by Mrs. Lovenes Mnyinda (nee Nkhoma) of village Kasambwe, a Primary school teacher at Mkanda Primary in the district. Mrs Mnyinda who is the victim’s mother said the victim Debora Mnyinda 13, a standard 8 pupil got defiled by Mr. Chisomo Paul Saini, a soldier of Malawi Defense Force.
Reports indicate that the victim who has written her 2023 Primary School Leaving Certificate Examinations at Kazyozyo F. P. School and currently stays with her mother (reporter) at Mkanda F. P. school was invited by the soldier on duty at Mkanda TDC on Monday evening.
When the mother and Sister of the victim named Pemphero Mnyinda saw that the daughter had taken long, became suspicious and they made a follow up to know the whereabouts of the victim. The suspect was consulted by the reporter, and he denied to know the whereabouts of the victim.
Later, when the reporter went back home, the victim came and she was asked where she went and in the process, she revealed to have slept with the suspect and had sexual intercourse.
The matter was reported to Mkanda Police Unit, and the victim was referred to Mkanda Health Centre for medical examination and treatment.
The matter was then reported to higher authorities about the conduct of the suspect, hence the Military Police followed the matter and the suspect has been arrested and taken to their Military Base,and another Army officer has replaced the suspect to provide security at Mkanda TDC 2023 MSCE Distribution Centre.
So far, joint investigations have been instituted in the matter pending hand over of the suspect by Malawi Defence Force to Malawi Police Service.
The suspect hails from Chitseka village, Traditional Authority Mlolo, Nsanje District. He is Private Soldier at Malawi Air Force (Airwing).
