There has been tensions in Balaka Township from early hours of today July 11, 2022 as angry residents demanded the release of some alleged murderers who are currently in Police custody.
Facts gathered by Avant Publications indicate that the angry residents are tired of high rate of crime especially killings of innocent people in Balaka a couple of months ago. However, some suspects were captured by the mob, lucky enough he was rescued by Balaka Police.
After failing to set his body ablaze members of the community went stonning the police office in demand of the suspect’s release.
In defence the men in uniform tear-gassed the masses and this disturbed patients at Balaka District hospital and Bakita girls school.
As we report, the situation is still tense and houses belonged to the murder suspects have been destroyed with all properties set ablaze.
There are indications that two individuals suspected to be part of those arrested have fled.
Matters of mob justice are increasing in Malawi, following another incident occurred in Blantyre city’s Chilobwe township in March this year.
