PRESIDENT CHAKWERA APPEARS BEFORE PARLIAMENT.

The speaker for the August House, Catherine Gotani Hara made special announcement at the end of today’s deliberations that the president will on Tuesday appear before Parliament in respect of standing order 70B.

In his words leader of the house, Richard Chimwendo urged legislators to come in good number and positively participate during tomorrow’s deliberations.

The President is set to respond to questions pertaining to his speech he delivered on 3 February, 2022 during the opening of the 2022-2023 Budget Meeting at Parliament building in Lilongwe.

Standing Order 70B provides an opportunity for the President to respond to questions asked and raised during debate on the State of the Nation Address as required by section 89(3)(c) of the Constitution of Malawi.

Meanwhile, Leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa has been summoned to produce evidence to parliament by Tuesday, on claims that Dr Chakwera is shielding corrupt people in his cabinet.

Nankhumwa spoke this as he was responding to President Chakwera’s SONA.

Speaker of the national assembly has told Nankhumwa that failing to bring the evidence will mean that he has to withdraw his claims.
