After an illustrious career representing her nation on the netball court, Malawi Queens’ talented centre court player, Takondwa Lwazi, has decided to hang up her international netball boots. The announcement came at the age of 31, following the conclusion of the 2023 Netball World Cup held in Cape Town, South Africa.
Despite her immense skill and dedication to the sport, Lwazi has been grappling with a persistent knee problem, prompting her to make the difficult decision to step away from the Malawi National Netball team. Her impressive performance during the tournament saw her claim the player of the match award on one occasion, and she cemented her position as the second leading centre with the most feeds throughout the competition in South Africa.
In a heartfelt interview with Avant Publications, the versatile player expressed her gratitude for the unforgettable moments she experienced during her time as part of the Malawi Queens. Lwazi acknowledged that she has played her part in uplifting her nation’s netball scene and feels it is now time to gracefully exit the international stage.
Nonetheless, her passion for the game remains unwavering, and she will continue to showcase her exceptional talents at the domestic level, representing her club, Blue Eagles Sisters. In addition to her remarkable contributions on the court, it is worth noting that Takondwa Lwazi is also a dedicated police officer in her home country, Malawi.
The Malawi Queens, under Lwazi’s leadership at the centre and skillful gameplay, managed to secure an impressive 7th position in the Netball World Cup by defeating Tonga with a convincing score of 64-54 in their final match of the tournament.
