FORMER MDF COMMANDER BACK IN COURT

The case in which the former Malawi Defense Force Commander Henry Odillo is accused of corruption is now nearing its completion in which the state prosecutor intends to bring two last witnesses as its proceeds.

Odillo together with his then deputy Clement Kafuwa, former MDF accountant Nelson Kauwa Banda, former Accountant General David Kandoje and Ganizani Kuchombo are suspected to have conspired to use public office for the advantage of Banda and Kuchombo trading as Thuso Group. The conspiracy is suspected to have taken place between November 28, 2011 and August 20, 2013.

Avant has reports that the state paraded her 25th witness today. The witness is the former MBC Director General, Benson Tembo who witnessed on his involvement in the contract with Thuso group.

Tembo, admitted in court to have signed the contract with Thuso and also told the court that he knew Odillo when the transactions were made.

However, Judge Redson Kapindu adjourned the case to a later date following a request from Kandoje, who was not represented by his legal team.

The five public officers are also being accused of possessing K929.8 million public money, between March and September, 2013, which represented whole or partly property that had been obtained unlawfully.

The three in the name of Odillo, Kafuwa and Kandoje are further being accused of having R30 million and K929.8 million stolen under their watch due their negligence.

The state prosecutor Kamudoni Nyasulu speaking on the matter to Avant publications said that they are in the process of concluding the case as they are now due to parade two more witnesses.

Speaking on the same, lawyer Powell Nkhutabasa representing the accused also told Avant publications that they are happy that the case is getting to its conclusion.
