The government through Director of Public prosecutions Steve Kayuni has prayed before Lilongwe Magistrate Court to amend charges against Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) chief executive officer Collins Magalasi and business lady Dorothy Shonga.
The New charges are said to be K186 million from k107million as formerly charged in 2020.
Shonga and Magalasi were arrested in 2020 with former public relations officer Patrick Maulidi. The arrest was revelled on charges of influencing MERA internal Procurement and Disposal committee to award Vink Enterprise owned by Shonga a contract worth Million.
Director of Public prosecutions has it in record that the figure is increasing from K107 million to K186 million after evidences from 11 witnesses paraded in court recently during the trials.
Meanwhile, Lilongwe resident Magistrate Patrick Chirwa has given a go ahead to the state to amend its charge sheet to reflect new amounts.
The suspects are therefore required to appear before court on 19 April in line with the amended charge sheet.
