Police in Mponela, Dowa have arrested four people in connection to series of thefts and breaking offences in a special round-up operation. Police have also recovered electronic equipment which were stolen by the suspects.
The recovered items include: 2 Plasma TV screens, mobile phones, home theatre, batteries, solar panel and other valuable accessories worthy over a million Kwacha.
The items were recovered through a fruitful intelligence driven exercise that was conducted during the night between 24 – 25 November, 2020.
The suspects have been identified as Lington John, 20, Chipiriro Chipengule Shuga, 26, Ulemu Chisale Tholomani, 19, and Maulidi Chipengule, 23.
All the four suspects come from the area of traditional authority Mponela in Dowa.
Their arrest followed a report of breaking incident from Asedi Bwanali, 34, of M’bobo Village, Traditional Authority Mponela in Dowa who complained that his house was broken into by unknown criminals during the night of November 17, 2020.
Police acted swiftly and arrested Lington John a day prior to the operation and recovered part of the stolen items.
Lington’s arrest implicated his accomplices who upon learning that a colleague was under probe allegedly dumped some of the stolen properties within Mponela.
Police tactfully organized a round-up operation and cornered them all and this forms part of pre-Christmas activities that are aimed at ensuring that residents are granted safe festivities.
The suspects have also been linked to some of the violent crimes that have been occurring in the area.
They are expected to appear before court soon to answer breaking and theft charges.
Police continue to advise community members to come forward with information leading to the arrest all wanted criminals in order to have crime free zones.
