The UTM Party has expelled Michael Usi from its membership with immediate effect, citing violations of the party’s constitution.
In a statement issued by UTM Publicity Secretary Felix Njawala, the decision was attributed to Usi’s actions, which were deemed to undermine the unity and integrity of the party.
Njawala explained that Usi was found guilty of causing division within the party. Specifically, he mobilized UTM supporters to attend a government function while wearing UTM regalia and displaying party symbols, despite the termination of the political alliance between UTM and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

Furthermore, Usi publicly endorsed the MCP government by using its slogan, “Boma ndi Lomweli,” an act Njawala described as a violation of Article 22(8)(k) of the UTM Constitution, which prohibits members from supporting or affiliating with political organizations not allied with UTM.
“Michael Usi is hereby advised to cease identifying himself as a UTM member in any capacity, effective immediately,” the statement concluded.
