Police in Mangochi are keeping in custody former chairperson of Muhlakho wa Alhomwe, Muchana Mpuluka, for allegedly shooting at a man whom he found at his girlfriend’s house at Mwanyama Village in Mangochi on Wednesday night.
Mangochi Police identified the victim as Edward Mbalasa of Mapira Village, T/A Mponda in the district.
Mangochi Police deputy spokesperson, Amina Daudi, said the victim is in a love affair with a nurse (name withheld) who works at Mangochi District Hospital, who is also in a relationship with Mpuluka.
And on Wednesday night, Mpuluka arrived at his girlfriend’s house, only to find the victim chatting with the woman inside her bedroom.
Daudi said in the course of confrontation, Mpuluka fired some gun shots, injuring the victim on his right foot in the process.
When the victim escaped, Mpuluka allegedly fired some shots at the victim’s vehicle before leaving the scene.
However, Mpuluka handed himself over to Police on Thursday morning and he will appear in court tomorrow to face changes of acts intending to cause grievous harm and malicious damage.

Acts intended to cause grevious harm occurred yesterday 19.05.21 at around 20:00hrs at Mwanyama Village Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi.
According to Mangochi Police PRO Amina Tepani Daudi confirmed that Mr. Edward Mbalasa, born on 10.02.1986, from Mapira village Traditional Authority Mponda Mangochi who works as a driver reported above case against Muchana Mpuluku born on 10.08.1982 village Mlotho Traditional Authority Mwambo District Zomba Occupation working as Deputy Director of Power Market Limited in Lilongwe.
Amina revealed that Mr Mbalasa is in a love affair with Vanilla Makhuli born on 17.04.1996 of Laiti Village Traditional Authority Bvumbwe Thyolo Occupation a Nurse working for Mangochi District Hospital who also happens to be in a relationship with the suspect.
Therefore, on 19 May 2021 at around 1930 hrs the Mbalasa went to visit Vanilla at her house at Mwanyama. While chatting with her in the bedroom, the suspect appeared all of a sudden and found them there.
A quarrel broke out between the two men and during which the suspect is suspected to have fired his STEYA M9-A1 rifle twice injuring the reporter on the right foot in the process. Mbalasa however managed to escape and then the suspect proceeded to fire bullets on three of the reporter’s Suzuki Swift motor vehicle registration number BW 3417 and left the scene.
Matter was reported to police and victim was referred to Mangichi District Hospital where he was treated as out-patient for a small wound and bruises. Scene visited where two empty cartilage were found. Arrest and seizure of the rifle made. MG/CR/77/05/2021 refers//
