The Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate’s (SRM) Court has convicted and sentenced a 32-year- old Traditional Doctor, Thomson Benson to serve a jail term of 21 years for having sexual intercourse with his step daughter.
The Court heard through Kawale Police Prosecution Officer (SPO) Assistant Superintendent Evance Kantukule that the convict had multiple sexual intercourse with his step daughter since 2023.
Assistant Superintendent Evance Kantukule further narrated that the convict got married to a woman who had a girl child from another man and they were staying with her in Area 24.
The convict, who is a Traditional Doctor used to send his wife for farming during rainy season creating an environment suitable for him to have sexual intercourse with the child.
In February, 2025 the victim realized that she was pregnant of his step father and decided to reveal the ordeal to her mother, who reported the issue at Area 24 Police Unit where detectives swiftly arrested the suspect .
Appearing in court, he pleaded guilty to the charges leveled against him and further asked for court’s leniency stating that he is the first offender and he has family obligations.
In his Submissions, Assistant Superintendent Evance Kantukule asked for meaningful sentence citing the serious nature of the case committed by the father instead of protecting the girl.
Senior Resident Magistrate Blacious Kondowe concurred with the state’s submission and ordered him to serve a jail term of 21 years as deterrent sentence
Thomson Benson hails from Khoswe Village, Traditional Authority Kalolo in Lilongwe District.
