The Dowa Magistrate court has sentenced a 55 year old secondary school teacher to 3 years imprisonment with hard labour for indecent assault.
On hearings, prosecutor Christopher Daluni told the court that the teacher, McDonald Jubele Chikagwa committed the offence on November 27, 2020 at her duty station, Byanzi Secondary School in the laboratory room.
Chikagwa unlawfully and indecently assaulted a form two student by inserting his arm in her skirt and started caressing her thighs.
The girl reported the matter to a non governmental organization called Tawina which deals with girls education at Lumbadzi which in turn reported the matter to police, leading to the convict’s arrest.
Mr Chikagwa pleaded not guilty to the charges which prompted the state to parade four witnesses.
Passing the verdict, Senior Resident Magistrate Florence Msekandiwana gave a 3 year sentence to the convict to detour the other would be offenders.
Chikagwa hails from Mphanji village in Traditional Authority Kayembe’s area in the district.
