Quarry miner dies; Suffers Severe Facial Injuries

A 35-year-old man, Lameck Munesi, tragically lost his life after falling approximately 50 meters downhill at Chiwaula Hills where he went for quarry mining with his wife.

The incident occurred on December 14, 2024, in Chiwaula Village, Traditional Authority Chimwala in the district.

According to deceased’s wife, the couple had gone to Chiwaula Hills for quarry mining earlier that day. While working, Munesi climbed uphill to collect firewood used for heating rocks to facilitate breaking. Unfortunately, he slipped while pulling firewood and fell, landing headfirst on a large rock.

The fall caused severe injuries, including the dismantling of the right side of his face.

The incident was immediately reported to Chimwala Police Unit. Detectives from Chimwala and Mangochi Police formations, accompanied by a medical practitioner, visited the scene.

A postmortem revealed that Munesi died from severe head injuries resulting in significant blood loss.

Meanwhile authorities confirmed no foul play, and a burial order was issued.
