Parliament has announced that from today it will slow down its operations for a period of 14 days after some lawmakers and members of staff tested positive for the coronavirus.
In a statement released Wednesday, Speaker Catherine Gotani Hara says the detection of the cases has necessitated an urgent requirement to review operations of the august House in order to safeguard lives of MPs and staff.
“During this period, in line with the Parliament of Malawi Covid-19 preventive measures, the Parliament building will be comprehensively disinfected and closed to all stakeholders to prevent the further spread of the virus,” reads part of the statement.
